Latania Palm

Latania Palms are genus that is commonly known as “Latan palm” and these types of palm plants are belong from family of “Arecaceae”. These are small plant. These types of palm plants are also a flowering plant those have variable species like “Latania loddigesii” (commonly known as “Blue Latan Palm”), “Latania lontaroides” (commonly known as “Red Latan Palm”) and “Latania verschaffeltii” (commonly known as “Yellow Latan Palm”).

1. Latania loddigesii

Flowering plant Latania loddigesii is a well-known species of Latania genus that is commonly known as “Blue Latan Palm” and belongs from family of “Arecaceae”. It is a slow growing foliage plant. Leaves of this plant are star shaped and green or silver in color. It blooms yellow, gray or cream colored flowers; male and female flowers are growing in separate plant. It produces green or brown colored oval shaped fruits.

This palm plant is not choosy in soil that must be well drained. It can tolerate drought but it needs moderate watering in its growing period. Bright and high light is preferable for this plants well growth and moderate fertilizing is acceptable by this plant.

2. Latania lontaroides

Latania lontaroides is another species of Latania palm genus that belongs from family of “Arecaceae”. Scientifically known as “Latania lontaroides” that is commonly known as “Red Latan Palm”. This plant blooms yellow colored flowers in season of Spring; male and female flowers are growing in separate plant. It produces green colored fleshy fruit and seeds are rounded shape.

This plant needs poor maintenance for its fast growing. It prefers warm temperature; it needs sandy soil with well drainage system. Moist soil and also drought is quite tolerable by this plant. Full of sunlight with part of shade is preferable for this plants well growth and moderate watering is acceptable by this plant. Medium fertilizing is preferable for this plant.

3. Latania verschaffeltii

Scientifically known, as Latoania verschaffeltii is a species of “Latania” genus that is commonly known as “Yellow Latan Palm”. Leaves of this plant are greenish or orange in color and fruits are greenish brown in color. Seeds of this plant are rounded in shape.

This plant is slow growing plant. It loves warm temperature and full of sunlight is preferable for this plants well growth. For this plants well growth it prefers well-drained soil; moderate and regular watering is preferable for this plant. Moderate fertilizing is acceptable by this plant.
