Ferocactus Cactus

Ferocactus is a genus of “Cactaceae” or “Cactus” family. It has variable species. This type of plant blooms flowers and these are pink, red, yellow or purple in color. It is cylindrical, rounded or oval in shape. Its variable species are “Ferocactus wislizeni”, “Ferocactus latispinus”, “Ferocactus glaucescens” and so more.

1. Ferocactus wislizeni

Scientifically known as “Ferocactus wislizeni”, this plant is a well-known species of Ferocactus genus. This plant belongs from “Cactaceae” family, which is commonly known as “Fishhook barrel cactus” and “Southwestern barrel cactus” etc. Flowers of this plant are yellow and orange in color and these are blooms in Winter in season. This plant is also a fruit plant, which produces yellow colored fruit and shape of its fruits are like pineapple.

Fishhook barrel cactus needs special caring and maintenance. This plant needs native and well-drained soil for its well growth. This plant can tolerate very warm temperature and also very cold temperature. Quite annual rainfall is preferable for this plant growth.

2. Ferocactus latispinus

Ferocactus latispinus cactus is another variety of Ferocactus genus. Commonly known as “Devil's Tongue Barrel” and “Crow's Claw Cactus” that is scientifically known as “Ferocactus latispinus”; belongs from family of “Cactaceae”. It is a flowering plant that blooms yellow and purple colored flowers in Autumn season to early Winter season. Its fruits are very juicy. This cactus use for make especially sweet.

As cactus plant this Devil's Tongue Barrel cactus needs warm temperature and moderate watering for its well growth. Minimum 10°C temperature is preferable for this plant. Sunny weather is good for this plants growth.

3. Ferocactus glaucescens

Ferocactus glaucescens is a well-known species of Ferocactus jenus. Scientifically known as “Ferocactus glaucescens” that is commonly known as “Blue Barrel Cactus”. This plant is belongs from family of “Cactaceae” and this plant is green or yellow in color. This plant blooms yellow colored flowers in seasons of late Spring to Summer. Its flowers are very long lasting flower.

This type of plants is very to growing. Blue Barrel cactus requires rich and well-drained soil; standing water is harmful for this plant growth. Full sunny weather is good for this plants well growth and in its growing time it prefers moderate watering and moderate fertilizing. Minimum 10°C temperature is preferable for this plant either low temperature can be cause of death of this plant.
