Echinocactus Cactus

Echinocactus is a genus of cactus family and it has many variable species. It is very nice flowering houseplant. Variable species like Golden Barrel Cactus, Giant Barrel Cactus, Cottontop Cactus etc.

1. Golden Barrel Cactus

Golden Barrel Cactus is a most common species of this echinocactus genus. Scientific name of this plant is “Echinocactus grusonii” that is commonly known as “Golden Barrel Cactus”, “Golden Ball” and “Mother-in-Law's Cushion” and this plant belongs from family of “Cactaceae”. It is round in shape and looks like globe. Flowers of this plant are quite yellow in color and blooming time is Summer season.

Golden Barrel Cactus plant is easy to grow and it is fast growing plant. Minimum 10°C temperature must be need for alive this plant and a lot of sunlight is good for this plants growth. Well-drained soil is beneficial and poor watering is preferable for this plant growth. In Winter watering must be reduced. Standing water is deadly for this plant. Liquid fertilizer is good for this plants well and healthy growth.

2. Giant Barrel Cactus

Giant Barrel Cactus is another species of echinocactus genus and this plant belongs from “Cactaceae”. Scientific name of this plant is “Echinocactus platyacanthus”, “Echinocactus ingens”, “Echinocactus helophorus” and “Echinocactus palmeri” etc. Commonly it is known as “Giant Barrel Cactus” and it belongs from family of “Cactaceae”. It blooms flowers from end of Spring season to Summer season and flowers are yellowish colored. This plant is used for make traditional candy and it is cylindrical in shape.

Giant Barrel Cactus is a desert plant and it is easy to growing. This plant needs warm weather and indirect bright sunlight for its healthy growth. Direct sunlight can be burning this plant. Watering is important for this plants fast growth. In Summer season watering once in a week is preferable for this plants growth. Fertilizing very rare is acceptable for this plant; poor liquid fertilizing is needed for this plant growth.

3. Cottontop Cactus

Cottontop Cactus is also a variety of echinocactus genus. This plant belongs from family of “Cactaceae” and scientific name of this plant is “Echinocactus polycephalus”, “Emorycactus polycephalus”, and “Echinocactus xeranthemoides”. This plant blooms flowers in early Rainy season and flowers are yellow calored.

Cittintop cactus plant is very slow growing plant. This plant needs full of sunlight and well-drained soil is preferable for this plant growth. This plant needs watering poorly and poor liquid fertilizer is preferable for this plants growth. Standing water can be cause of damage.
